A traditional two bar but greatly extended village pub with real fires and a friendly atmosphere making it the meeting place for many local groups. It is located at the foot of the Zig Zag path carved by famous naturalist Gilbert White and which gives its name to the annual Zig Zag Festival held in early October. On entering the pub turn right for the cosy Hanger Bar or left for the Zig Zag Bar divided into a number of separate drinking areas including a dining area. Up to three guest beers often come from local microbreweries and local bottled ciders from Mr Whiteheads and Blackmoor are available. Beer bats offering three thirds of any cask beer for the price of a pint can be had. The extensive menu showcase local and home-made produce with vegetarian and gluten free options. The safe play area in the huge garden is popular with children. In late winter the garden is carpeted with snowdrops while inside there is a welcoming open fire in the bar area and a wood-burning stove in the gazebo.
